Hannu Larjava

Dr. Hannu Larjava has strong interest in undergraduate, graduate and continuous education in the area of periodontics. He is Professor and Chair of the Division of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene and the Director of Graduate Periodontics program at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
Dr. Hannu Larjava graduated with DDS from the University of Turku, Finland, in 1978, completed his PhD in 1984 and finished the specialty training in periodontics in 1987. He then received an International NIH Fellowship to further his research training as a postdoctoral fellow at NIH in the USA between 1987-1988. Dr. Larjava was then invited to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to become an Associate Professor in Periodontics. Dr. Larjava joined UBC in 1993 as the Chair, Division of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene and the Director of Graduate Periodontics. He has published over 100 reports on various topics in the area of periodontics and wound healing. Dr. Larjava is certified specialist in periodontics and has continued to practice clinical periodontics part-time in Vancouver and North Vancouver as well as in his satellite practice in Castlegar, BC. He has given numerous CE courses and lecture presentation in domestic and international venues.
